The Defect Sensitivity of Ferris Wheel Structure

The structure of the Ferris wheel inevitably has errors or initial defects during the process of manufacturing and installation, such as the bending or torsion of the wheel flange that may occur during the process of manufacturing and installation, the initial bending and the local concave-convex deformation of the pipe wall during the welding of the support column, the uneven settlement of the support column foundation, the braking force of the drive system does not match the design value, etc.


The mechanical performance of the Ferris wheel structure is affected by the initial defects, but its sensitivity is different in different defects, that is, it is more sensitive to certain types of defects, while it is not sensitive to other defects. In order to ensure the safety of the Ferris wheel structure during use, the main defects that affect the mechanical performance of the Ferris wheel structure must be considered in the design, and it is necessary to accurately calculate the impact of defect sensitivity on its mechanical performance and carrying capacity.


Combined with specific operational cases, the following conclusions are drawn in the industry:


1. The structure of the Ferris wheel is more sensitive to the overall bending defects of the flange, while it is not sensitive to the overall torsion defects of the wheel flange. The overall bending deformation of the wheel flange should be monitored during the tension construction of the wheel spoke cables, and the wheel spoke cables on both sides of the wheel plane should be symmetrically tensioned to reduce the overall bending deformation of the wheel flange.


2. The support column is not sensitive to the initial bending and local convex-concave manufacturing defects of the pipe wall, which can appropriately reduce the manufacturing deviation requirements of the support column.


3. The structure of the Ferris wheel is sensitive to the uneven settlement of the support column foundation, especially to the uneven settlement mode of the support column foundation (diagonal uneven settlement of the support column foundation). During the construction process, the settlement changes of the support column foundation should be specially monitored to control the diagonal uneven settlement of the support column foundation.


4. The change of braking force has little effect on the main components of the structure. Among them, the wheel web member is the most sensitive to the changes of braking force, followed by the wheel spoke cables, while the outer wheel flange is not sensitive to the changes of braking force.
