Three Important Periods of the Large Outdoor Ferris Wheel’s Development

The History of Ferris Wheel's Development

The Ferris wheel is developed from the early amusement wheel and circular rotating wheel step by step. The early Ferris wheel is also called the giant tourist car, which can ride more than 2,000 people at a time, and most of the amusement wheels or circular rotating wheels are made of wood, and its rotation time is about 20min.

The Ferris wheel was loved and welcomed by many young people as soon as it appeared, and it has developed rapidly, which can be divided into different types of Ferris wheels. Its development process can be divided into three stages:

First, the first observation car in the world appeared in Chicago, the United States in 1893. Since then, it has set a trend of putting a Ferris wheel in orthodox areas, but the two world wars in the 20th century also caused the sluggish of the Ferris wheel, which lasted for nearly half a century. During the period from the 1970s to the end of the 20th century, starting from the observation car built in Kobe, Japan, the world once again set a trend of building a Ferris wheel. At the same time, the development of the economy and technology has promoted the fast development of the Ferris wheel, and the Ferris wheel has also begun to make some changes, heading to a higher, larger, and more comfortable direction.

Second, from the 1970s to the end of the 20th century, at this stage of development, a certain number of representative Ferris wheels were built around the world. Some countries including Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States have built the new round wheel ride in succession, promoted the development of the Ferris wheel during this period.

Third, from the end of the 20th century to the present, during this period, types of Ferris wheels have entered many countries, including many developing countries, such as China and so on. Especially in some cities with rapid economic development, large outdoor Ferris wheels have been built in these cities, such as Shanghai. In 2002, a 108m viewing car was built in Shanghai, and a large Ferris wheel was also established in Harbin in 2003, which became a landmark in these cities.
